Listen, I have heard it said a NUMBER of times now that there is something somehow hideous about winking at people. (I mean doing it with your face, not typing ;) .) And I just want to say publicly and without apology that I vehemently disagree with this idea. Winking is fabulous. My dad winked at me sometimes, like when I was the only one who got his joke. Winking at little kids is sweet and it makes them laugh because it’s like you’re telling them you know they’re no mere kid, but an actual person. Furthermore, winking is flirting for self-aware people. It is highly likely that you will give someone stomach butterflies by winking at them! You just have to know how to do it right. No one else can be looking, it’s like a private-moments-in-public situation, which is always a thrill.
Look, The Paris Review advice column agrees with me.
YES! I’m an ace winker (at least, I think so).
my little brother is a winker, and it’s the best thing ever. i don’t know how it started, but i love it. he does it when he wants to let you know he loves you but doesn’t want to say it. SO CUTE
One of my favorite things about Dan is that he winks at me. We’ll be out with friends or in a big group and if I catch his eye, he’ll wink. The first time he did this I DID get butterflies. It always makes me feel special, and I know that’s why he does it. Hi honey!
