Cat: Rocket
Owner: giddygirlie
Appearance: A
Rocket is a doll. Nearly literally. He was a feral kitten that we adopted and when he first came to live with us he had a host of stomach problems. I think between those few months of not eating properly and being neutered at such a young age, he “missed” his growth spurt. He’s nearly 2 years old and probably weighs 7 lbs and is only about 1/2 the size of our other housecat. He has a very sweet, expressive face and lovely orange stripes and markings - one of his marmalade-colored swirls looks like Jupiter.
Sociability: A
This guy NEEDS to be your friend. Not wants, NEEDS. When new people come over he immediately runs to them and jumps up in their arms (part of his humor/peskiness comes from his ability to jump 5 feet in the air without effort). He is sincerely offended when he is shut out of rooms and will wail and cry in a tiny kitten voice that breaks your heart. When we leave the house, he runs and jumps on the door, catching the doorknob (we have one of those horizontal handle kinds) and pulling it down over and over.
He also adores our older cat, Ruckus, who just finds “”the kid”” to be a pest. Rocket is convinced that someday he’ll wear Ruckus down and still just wedges himself in next to Ruckus.
Usefulness: C
He doesn’t do much for US but since he’s been here (a little over a year) he’s gotten our older cat, Ruckus, up and playing and running again. He chases Ruckus a little too much sometimes, but between the increased exercise and the special diet Rocket requires (because of his stomach problems), Ruckus has lost weight in the past year and is getting healthier. Also, now that they’re a pair Ruckus doesn’t get so upset when we leave for long days away from the house or vacation, which is a HUGE bonus for us since we don’t worry about him constantly.
Huggability: A
You MUST HUG Rocket. There is no alternative! If you push him away, he’ll come back again and again and with me, he’ll just climb into my shirt like a hammock!
Overall Grade: A
Lookie! It’s Rocket O’Riley!
I want to meet your cats.
