For real? In our jury duty, you can only bring a newspaper. NO electronic devices, no books, no knitting, ONLY a newspaper. Not even magazines! Damn!
While you’re waiting to get called into a courtroom, pretty much anything goes. The waiting area has WiFi and you can eat and drink and knit and stream Die Hard or whatever. This is different from the first time I was summoned, almost 8 years ago. I couldn’t bring my knitting then and there was definitely no Internet access.
I finally got called into a courtroom for voir dire, and the rules changed. No cell phones, no eating/drinking, and no reading—which makes sense, because we’re supposed to pay attention. And drinking water is OK—I asked, because I need my water jug with me at all times.
